Excavating and replacing West 17th Street waterline in Front Royal Virginia Overview
As the Contractor we were excavating and replacing one thousand three hundred and fifty (1,350) feet of existing 4” cast iron water main with 6” Class 52 ductile iron pipe on W. 17th Street. This replacement was from the intersection of N. Shenandoah Avenue and W. 17th Street to the intersection of N. Royal Avenue and W. 17th Street.
We transferred twenty-one (21) existing water services from the old water main to the new 6” water main. Any water services that were not ¾” were upgraded to ¾” so they would meet Town specifications. We installed one (1) new 6” MJ tee with three (3) 6” gate valves at the intersection of W. 17th Street and N. Shenandoah Avenue. We installed a new fire hydrant with a 6” MJ tee and three (3) 6” gate valves where the existing hydrant was located, then tied back into the existing 6” gate valve in the intersection of W. 17th Street and N. Royal Avenue.
Working with the Town of Front Royal we started this project in December of 2014. Luckily the weather didn’t slow us down too much during the winter season. There were a few days where the ground was frozen solid and we were unable to dig, however we were able to finish up around mid February of 2015, and move on to the next project.
