Stephens City Excavating Water line Upgrade

We were contracted by VDOT (Virginia Department of Transportation) in conjunction with the FCSA (Frederick County Sanitation Authority) for project: Stephens City excavating waterline upgrade. This project required us to excavate and install approximately 600 linear feet of 8” waterline in order to upgrade the existing 3” waterline currently in service. This included the excavation and installation of additional gate valves, a new fire hydrant, and reconnecting services to the Dollar General Store, residential apartments and the VDOT area headquarters to the new upgraded main line.

The water line and service transfers required night time work. The night time tie in started at 10pm and persisted until 7am. We dug down where the 8” street water main connected to the 3” water main, cut off the valve, cut the line, and then spliced our 8” main to the street main. Afterwards we connected each service to the newly active 8” main. We then proceeded to backfill and compact the opened excavations. Finally during restoration we installed new curbing because both curb radiuses at the Dollar General entrance had to be cut out and replaced in order to install the water line. New asphalt was installed where the road was open cut.
